Katrin ist schon seit 2010 Mitglied in unserem Verein. Sie hat in dieser Zeit ein Patenkind durch die Schulzeit begleitet, aber eine Reise nach Gambia immer wieder vertagt. Die sonst so toughe Frau hatte Respekt vor dem Gambia, das ihr begegnen könnte. Es ist etwas anderes, Bilder und Infos in Deutschland zu vernehmen als sie vor Ort selbst zu erleben. Aber bei uns im Verein darf jede*r im eigenen Tempo Gambia persönlich kennenlernen. So verschob Katrin ihre Reiseplanungen immer wieder in die Zukunft. Und sie uns in den letzten Jahren als Sitzungsleitung in den Mitgliederversammlungen unterstützt und uns auch sonst immer wieder im Hintergrund den Rücken gestärkt.
Wenn wir Katrin beschreiben sollten, dann ist es ihre Souveränität und ihr sicheres Auftreten, verbunden mit einer Prise Humor, was sie ausmacht und was uns nachhaltig beeindruckt.
Die politisch engagierte Frau hat ihr Herz am linken Fleck, war immer unser rechtlicher Beistand, die mit Rat und Tat zur Seite stand, und zum Beispiel auch maßgeblich Verantwortung für unsere Vereinsordnung trägt.
2024 war es dann endlich soweit – Die erste Reise nach Gambia stand an. Noch zu Beginn als Frischling bezeichnet, liefen die letzten Tage schon ganz eingespielt. Und am Ende wurde eine weitere Reise geplant und über weitere Aufgaben im Verein gesprochen. Ein gemeinsamer Traum – stabile Schulspeisung in allen Projekten – klingt nach einem Schwerpunkt, der für Katrin machbar ist.
Etwas für Mädchen, Frauen und deren Rechte zu tun und auch Umweltthemen voran zu bringen, das ist unser Ziel – und mit Katrin haben wir eine riesige Chance, das weiter auszubauen.

We would like to introduce active helpers to you from time to time.
Names are often mentioned in our reports, but who are our helpers? We would like to introduce them to you in more detail. Of course, all those involved have given their consent in advance and granted permission for text and images.
Today we introduce you to Katrin. Katrin has been a member of our association since 2010. During this time, she has accompanied a sponsored child through school, but has repeatedly postponed a trip to The Gambia. The otherwise so tough woman had respect for the Gambia that she might encounter. It’s different to hear pictures and information in Germany or to experience it for yourself on the ground. In our association, everyone is allowed to arrive in The Gambia at their own pace. Katrin has repeatedly postponed her travel plans to the future. In return, she has supported us over the last few years as a meeting chair and has always backed us up in the background.
If we had to describe Katrin, it would be her aplomb and her confident manner, combined with a touch of humor, which is what makes her stand out and which has made a lasting impression on us.
This politically committed woman has her heart in the left place and has always been our legal advisor, providing advice and support and taking significant responsibility for our association’s rules and regulations, among other things.
In 2024, the time had finally come. Katrin was enchanted by her first trip to The Gambia. Described as a newcomer at the beginning, the last few days were already well-practiced. And in the end, another trip was planned and further tasks in the association were discussed.
A shared dream of stable school meals in all projects sounds like a focus that seems feasible.
Our goal is to do something for girls, women and their rights and also to promote environmental issues, and with Katrin we have a huge opportunity to develop this further.
