Mortuary: Construction Process Documentation – Hygieneraum zur Totenversorgung: Bauprozess dokumentiert

…we need more donations to finish the last jobs. By this, we mean specifically the painting. Let’s put all efforts together to raise 200 Euro more.

…but now, we go ahead!

This year’s raining season brought some major issues to our compound. We had to deal with so much floodings. It would be a waste of time and material to continue constructions under such conditions. But with the beginning of October, the rainfalls stopped. And we welcome German volunteer René to our foundation, who is an experienced craftsman, and who joins our crew to continue the construction. Also, we received more donations to buy tiles.

We transferred your first donations in mid-July! That makes us really happy, because now, the mortuary is no longer just a good plan, but is already visible in outline. The bricks have already been laid, and materials for water and electricity pipes have been purchased. The construction work is progressing rapidly. – Minor changes of construction planning: The interior window will not be replaced, but closed so that the room can be cooled better.

The room is planned to be next to the mosque, using already existing structures which are going to be extended and adapted.

Der Raum soll an die Moschee angebaut werden und dabei vorhandene Strukturen nutzen, diese erweitern und an die neue Nutzung anpassen.

The Problem

In good weather, the nearest but still distant mortuary is around 45 minutes away, but in the rainy season the trip can be many times longer. And it is precisely when mortality rates increase, mostly due to Malaria. The body not only has to be carried on the sodden, sometimes flooded streets to get to the wash house, but also back to the local cemetery. The required burial time can only be achieved with haste and pressure.

The Solution

The hygiene room will enable both the deceased and their relatives to give a dignified farewell. It will also ease the financial burden, as there will be no need for transportation.

The Target Group

Firstly, the hygiene room will be available to the hospital in Kunkujang Keitaya. Secondly, the room is for people who have died in the immediate vicinity. It serves a neighborhood of around 30,000 people.

The hygiene room is explicitly open to all religious communities.
