It gives me great pleasure to report to you on the activities that took place in the Nyofelleh kindergarten at the end of the year.
In December 2024, GBG members Ingrid and Harald travelled to The Gambia to complete the project assignments given to them by the Board.
Bonus payments to kindergarten teachers
One of the tasks was to pay the ongoing bonus payments to the four kindergarten teachers at Nyofelleh kindergarten. This is an expense allowance provided by our organisation in addition to the salaries paid by the municipality of Nyofelleh. We do these payments because the municipality’s salary payments are far from sufficient. The financial amounts that the municipality pays to the kindergarten teachers come from the school fees that the parents have to pay at the beginning of the school year. These funds come from donors. To find, to attract and to convince them is an ongoing, regular task. As the project manager, the project is very close to my heart, so I have a special responsibility.
In the following photos you see, among others, our permanent employee in The Gambia. His name is Ebrima E. Bah (called Rise). He coordinates and manages the upcoming tasks in consultation with the Executive Board.
The following pictures show the campaign to pay out the money to the teachers. Here you see the smiling kindergarten teachers who have been working in this kindergarten for years. The picture on the right shows the director, Aunty Fatou Gibba:
It is important to us to make regular payments every six months. This creates trust and increases motivation on site.
Dental care campaign at the kindergarten
If one is already on site, it is a good idea to tackle the dental care campaign as well.
This campaign takes place at all the GBG projects, in order to familiarise all children with dental care and to educate them about regular dental care. These activities take place on a regular basis, as new pupils are constantly joining the schools and kindergartens.
Ingrid, a retired doctor, was delighted to accompany this campaign. As you can see on the pictures above, our Rise gives the initial instructions for dental care.
Our organisation provides sufficient toothbrushes and dental care products for this purpose. A dentist supervises the pupils‘ dental check-ups at regular intervals.
Outlook for the year 2025
The kindergarten is getting on in years. Repairs are urgently needed. These are essentially repairs:
- Colour scheme in the classrooms
- Procurement of new chairs and desks
- Renewal of the lighting
- Procurement of teaching materials.
